To See or Not to See

With apologies to Hamlet (and Shakespeare). I knew when I stepped on the scale first thing this morning that it would not be a good WI today.  I had my breakfast, did my last chance workout (on our exercise bike), went to my BSF, and then to my WI.  I got there fairly late and went directly into the meeting and weighed on my way out.  I predicted to the WI lady that I would have a gain and she said, yes, just a bit.  I didn't look at the number and am not inclined to do so.  I'll just go through this week as well as I can and see what I can do by next week.

I'm disappointed in my results the past few weeks.  I need to cut out many insidious small variances from my plan and get back to my good zone.  I love my new smaller clothes and would hate to have them get too small.  So here's to my trying to get back. Semper Speranza.

Tomorrow E (shown in her Minnie Mouse costume, above) and I will make cranberry bars for her Daddy's birthday dinner.  Her daddy, our son Johnny, turned 34 last weekend.  They're coming over tomorrow night for dinner.  He requested steak and cranberry bars.  The bars are so good that I can't have them in the house for a moment more than necessary, so we'll make them tomorrow afternoon, save out enough for dessert, and package the rest in a tin for him to enjoy.  Johnny is the cook in his family and quite enjoys having someone else do the cooking occasionally.

Have a good day

  1. No wonder your grandkids are so cute--what a darling boy Johnny was! Wow, I guess you have a lot more self-control than I do. I couldn't keep from looking!

Don't worry too much about outgrowing your smaller clothes. You are living such a healthy life right now, I am sure it will all even out in the long run .

  2. Bummer! It sounds as if you know what you are doing so just a matter of getting things totally back under control. Those small variances really do add up quickly, don't they?

I couldn't have said this better myself! Any time my weight loss is not going as planned, this is the reason.

  4. This is just a little blip. And I think your plan and attitude going forward are just what you need. Now... if I ever sense you going down the slippery slope that I have fallen heads-over-heels down myself so many times, I will give you a talkin' to!

  5. I am just now beginning to understand how that one bite really does matter after all. I've not lost any weight since August, having a little treat here and a little treat there. I think I'm back on track, and you will be too. Don't fall for waiting until after the holidays, either.

  6. What a cutie! Hang in. You know the scale will be headed in the other direction soon if you get back to where you know you need to be. You are awesome. Cranberry bars....sounds tasty. My mouth is watering. Happy bday to your son. Enjoy the dinner!

  7. Thanks for sharing the pictures. I have a cranberry-orange cookie that I make during the holidays (and will this year, too), but I am the same way-can't keep them in the house! I will allow myself TWO, though!!

  8. I know it's just a number and to avoid it is to give it power--blah, blah, blah. Sometimes it's just easier, not to mention more effective, to ignore it and focus on our actions. Those will take care of the number soon enough.

  9. Gosh they look so similar your granddaughter & your son at about the same age!

Glad to see you upbeat - could you share the cranberry bar recipe? My DH is a huge cranberry fan & I find I can resist cranberries pretty easily. I was THRILLED to find them at the market this week and bought all 4 bags (to freeze) but they should have more this week for cooking so I'm now hunting for good recipes (I throw frozen ones into smoothies all year round, but stock up during the 3 weeks of the year that they're available in France).
